The Problem

Clean track, whether in Z-scale or G-scale, is of utmost importance for trouble-free layout operation. Dirty rails and wheel surfaces obstruct current flow as well as the transfer of digital information to locomotives. Most cleaning devices available today are equipped with either static felt strips, rotating drums (some of them motorized) or similar. They may need to be drenched in some cleaning fluid to improve the cleaning action. Replacing such wear-out items can often be difficult and come with recurrent costs. Center studs on 3-rail track will never be cleaned by such equipment, nor will any oxidation be removed...

The new Track Cleaning Sled has been developed with these problems in mind and is brilliant in its performance and brilliantly simple in its construction.

Features

• No motor drive; therefore no need for track power
• Cleans even when pushed by hand

• Very simple to remove or add cleaning wipers as needed
• NEM coupler shafts accept Kadee style couplers

• Extremely long service life: The wipers are coated with a very hard but extremely fine-grained medium
• It is virtually impossible for this medium to grind grooves into rails, but will remove even the most stubborn dirt or oxidation

• Maintenance is limited to occasional washing of the cleaning surface with isopropyl alcohol (no acetone!) and an old soft toothbrush
• No damage to the track as with other motorized abrasive cleaning discs/drums, which grind down the rails when the car stops...
• The wipers conform perfectly to the track surface, which makes it impossible for them to create any dents
• Removes/polishes burn spots created by arcing
• Perfect driving and cleaning characteristics even on tight radiuses
• Clearly defined cleaning geometry through rigid cleaning surface
• Does not create any “cleaning dust” when in action or loose fibers, which is often the case with felt or similar cleaning material that catches on rail joints, frogs etc.
• No cleaning fluid required that may leave behind new residue
• No short circuits on powered frogs or other “difficult” areas since the cleaning surface is not electrically conductive

The Track Cleaning Sled is made of brass and weighs 175 grams (6.17 oz) without a load. It is available for HO in 2 and 3 rail version.
