    Hello,

I have installed a couple of Zimo decoders in HO steam and am very happy with them.
Though I am not an expert, I must add to the chorus and say Zimo low speed operation is the best. I have also used Lenz and Digitrax and neither compares in my experience.

Zimo has motor control that makes all other decoders look shabby
(well, I haven't tried a tsunami yet because they don't have diesel or
O scale decoders yet, but I have tried most if not all of the rest).
Zimo demonstrates that although lots of companies can make back-emf
decoders, it takes real expertise and hard work to make a really good one.

Having read a good deal about the performance of Zimo decoders, I ordered one (MX64R) to experiment with on my NCE system.
And I am mightily impressed. There is a noticeable difference in slow speed performance between the Zimo and the decoder that was fitted in that locomotive. I've also downloaded the manual from the Zimo website and been digesting it.

And of course the engine creeps at low speed like nothing I've seen before in DCC.
    Amazing.

    Thanks very much,

When I started researching Zimo decoders a few months back the latest MX69S version was 9. It's now 13 (13b, to be precise, if you want CV64 to work). My first decoder had v10, and it gave me good enough performance (significantly better than the other 9 decoders from 6 different manufacturers I had tried) to convince me to buy more. The next two I got had v13 software, and after swapping one in place of the v10 one it was instantly apparent that the motor control changes described in the release notes for v12 & 13 made a noticeable improvement over v10.
Those other 9 decoders I tried will never get any better than when I bought them - they have absolutely no provision for updates or bug fixes. My three zimo MX69S are already better than when I bought them, and since the release notes show a pattern of an update every few months it seems reasonable to expect they'll keep getting better for some time to come.

All of which is a long winded way of saying this: The MXDECUP may cost a bit, but there is no cheaper, quicker, or easier way to improve your engine's performance than updating the decoder software. I highly recommend it.

As a owner of an Intellibox, Lenz, and and played with NCE(and liked it a lot)......I am now a very proud owner of a Zimo system.
I admit they are expensive but well worth the cost. Think of it as
sacrificing/(not buying) 4 - 6 locos that year (depending on the continent you model and type ;-) ).
Having used Zimo decoders exclusively for the last 2 years and given all the features and where they are today compared to the competition....... the decision was a no-brainer for me.

If you can find a way to justify the cost then definitely go for it......
    you wont regret it.

    cheers

I was really impressed with the capabilities of the Zimo DCC system. It is truly the most sophisticated control system I’ve ever seen, yet its starter sets, building block approach, and excellent documentation make it usable on advanced layouts of any size.

Performance of the MX64 decoder is amazing. Slow speed and acceleration are so realistic.
Thanks again, this product can not compare to Digitrax and Lenz decoders.

    Art,

I finally got around to installing the MX62 in my Arnold S2 equipped with the Faulhaber coreless motor. I am absolutely amazed at the performance as compared to the DZ143. Using the factory default CV values I timed the crawl at speed step two as nearly 30 seconds for 1/8 inch travel! This decoder is light years ahead of the competition.

I will most likely be purchasing one or two more of these after Christmas. Please let me know if your supply is about to be depleted.

    Thanks again,

    Kevin Weir

I have played with the adaptive accel/decel features, specifically for the SNCF Mikado. The loco is quite heavy and it tends to 'lurch' or 'jolt' at     low speeds. One easy solution is to increase Vstart (CV#2), but this sacrifices the slow speed performance. In other words, the loco starts at  a higher voltage and speed. I like how the Zimo decoders can make my    locos crawl along the tracks at unbelieveably slow speeds.

Zimo is making the kind of decoders I'd make for myself if I had the ability.

Many, many thanks for your very prompt and friendly service.

The previous MX61s which I have tried are just fabulous - it's hard to imagine how Zimo could improve them even more, but I guess that's technology!!
I have already installed one of the decoders and the loco now runs magnificently, thanks to the Zimo!

The MX64R's arrived last Friday. I installed one in a new Kato SD90/43MAC, and was able to run it this past Tuesday night at the train club.
I had also installed a Soundtraxx DSX sound decoder into the loco, so it was a double fun evening. After increasing the PI factor in the back EMF function, I can't believe how smoothly the loco runs at speed step one.
I haven't ever seen a decoder that doesn't lurch to some degree at the very slowest speeds.

I hasten to add that I am impressed and very pleased with these decoders. My loco fleet is performing very well with them, especially at slow speeds during switching. Squeezing all this performance into such a tiny space is close to miraculous.

    Thanks very much, Art!

It has been a long time without Zimo decoders. The latest products from Lenz, Digitrax and North Coast continue to disappoint, although the newest LokSound decoders work moderately well in European steam locomotives.

Thanks, again, for all your considerable assistance!

I received the repaired MX-66 decoders earlier this week. Please accept my thanks for your wonderful service. While I have always been confident in Zimo's ability to offer state-of-the-art features and trouble-free operation, I can now state Zimo also offers exceptional service and support.

In my opinion, Zimo is the finest supplier of DCC products for large scale (LGB) applications.
