Loksound

The Concept

The concept of DCC which allows "almost real" replication of the operations of full size trains has been around for long enough for many modelers to adopt and implement the advantages of the system. Truly independent control of engines on the same track had been sought for a long time and DCC allows that kind of control. The advances in DCC decoders - which seem to be getting smaller and more sophisticated at every turn - lead to the fulfillment of many model railroaders' dream of combining DCC with sound.

While this concept and various executions thereof have been around for several years what does set LokSound apart from others is the possibility to record your very own customized sound.

Combining both the decoder and the sound module on the same board saves space and makes installation easier. This in turn allows installation in the smaller scales, if not in the engine then certainly in a car permanently attached to the engine. The standard, original LokSound Decoder can be used in N, TT, HO and O scale.
The larger LokSound XL Decoder was specially developed for the larger scales of No.1 and G (IIm).
A specially developed program called "Lokprogrammer" is designed to customize your very own sound to conform to a specific prototype engine. Be it your own sounds or the factory designed and installed sounds they are reproduced by high powered audio amplifiers and broadcast via specially designed mylar™ speakers.
LokSound provides you with sound features that a short time ago were only a dream.

Decoder Features

LokSound Decoders offer what is commonly expected of modern decoders and then some!

LokSound Decoders:

  • can be used with AC, DC and high-efficiency core less motors.
  • use 22 kHz frequency to supply the motors with silent and smooth power
  • are compatible with most of the modern DCC control systems i.e.                    Arnold Digital™ DCC, DigiTrax™, Lenz Digital Plus™, LGB™ MZS, Märklin™ 6021, NCE™, ROCO digital is cool™, Uhlenbrock InteliBox™, Wangrow System One™, ZIMO™ ( DCC).
  • auto-detect the DCC system used.
  • have a back-EMF feature to compensate on up- and downhill sections to keep motor rpm  constant.
  • support most DCC features such as acceleration/deceleration rate, maximum and minimum speed, engine address.
  • have an overload protection on the motor output.
  • light function with adjustable voltage.
  • feature 2 (LokSound) or 6 (LokSoundXL) auxiliary functions for such features as smoke generators, interior lights, actuating pantographs etc. etc.

LokSound2

Introduced in 2001 the LokSound2 decoder is the decoder for HO, O and 1. It operates on NMRA-DCC, Motorola, DC or AC. It will drive all motors found in model rail roads, incl. core less and AC motors. Its operating characteristic are convincing thanks to back-EMF and high frequency!
