Zimo’s MX8 accessory modules power switches (with real time position feed back), semaphores, traffic lights with bulbs or LED’s and uncouplers. All switch machines can be used whether it is a twin coil, motor drive or EPL. Switches, lights etc. can be controlled by the cab directly, by a passing train (eg. reed switches) or computer. If a route is requested either by use of the MX2 cab or a PC, the MX8 will switch the turnouts that are part of the route in sequence if need be, to prevent overloading the system! The MX8 can be set (by CV settings of the MX8) so that the traffic lights come on and go off very slowly ( up to 25 seconds), just like the real thing.
The MX7 reversing loop module switches polarity without any effect on the engine. It doesn’t creat any “short’s” anywhere and allows for very smooth operation. Backing up in a loop is possible without limitations.
The MXDS is a turn table module that can be controlled via the MX2 cab or a PC.

Reversing loop module

By isolating a section of track with gaps in both rails every reversing loop configuration (also turntables) can be wired to a MX7. The polarity change in the reversing loop section is done extremely fast when the train is crossing the gaps. The train continues to run without interruption from the reversing loop; and it is always fully controllable through the cab.

The triple reversing loop module MX7/3 can be used for three independent loop sections. It contains three times the circuitry of the MX7. It is designed for cases, where there is not enough space in a reversing loop section, to hold the full length of a train.

The loop can then be divided into three sections. The first and last section should have the length of a bogie. The middle section about the length of your longest engine (or consist). With this set up it will be virtually impossible that all the gaps are crossed simultaneously. This configuration is also ideal for wiring a wye.

Accessory modules
MX8 modules (in contrast to accessory decoders) communicate (they receive commands and transmit feedback information) via CAN-Bus with other DCC components or a PC. So they can be used only within the ZIMO system (MX1, MX2). They operate all switch machines, decouplers, signals and other stationary devices. Feedback information of turnouts is sent via CAN-Bus to cabs (for display) or the computer.
Auxiliary inputs may be used for track-controlled operation of turnouts (e.g.when approaching a turnout in the wrong direction).
Signal lights can be operated with prototypical slow illumination and dimming. Accessory modules also use configuration variables (similar to loco decoders) to allow individual definition of pulse times, illumination and dimming times and assignment of auxiliary inputs to turnout positions.

CAN Bus cables:
"CAN" (= Controller are network) is a serial data link protocol which is widely used in industrial and automotive applications. Within the ZIMO system we use a CAN Bus for quick and reliable data exchange between central command station MX1, cabs MX2, block control modules MX9, accessory modules MX8, etc. The CAN Bus cables contain 6 wires (including power supply for cabs) and a “telephone” plug on each end. Cable length can be several hundred yards; in most applications (up to about 50 yards) the cable layout is totally unrestricted (i.e. without any compensating resistors and no special configuration).
